User Feedback Time!!

Ok so I've finally had the chance to start working on the the other videos from the Riot Fest. Next in line is the Bhopal Stiffs show at the Subterranean. Now this was one of my favorite shows of the whole fest. They played for over an hour with their set including just about everything they ever recorded. From their 7" to their E.P. to their 10 song demo. Now the only disappointing thing about the show was that there was barely any light on them. My camera does absolutely horrible in low light and it really does show.

Luckily the video edit program I use has all these neat features to do all kinds of stuff. So I uploaded 3 30 sec. clips from Road To Bhopal. The first is the original footage. Second is the first edit. And the third is the second edit. Take a look at them and let me know what you think looks the best. I wanna get some feedback before I go ahead and edit the rest of the show. Right now I'm leaning towards the third clip. It brightens the picture without a whole lot of the color bleeding in the second clip. So let me know what you think!

Riot Fest 2010 - Busted At Oz Reunion - Naked Raygun

So this was the long awaited "original" Naked Raygun reunion. Well almost original, Jim Colao broke his collar bone a few weeks before the show, so Eric Spicer filled in. They played material mainly from the Basement Screams E.P. & the Throb Throb LP. Their set wasn't that long, but it included many great songs they rarely play, including a cover of the Avengers "We Are The One". I would say the highlight here was Bombshelter/Tojo. Great stuff indeed. Check it out for yourself! Enjoy!

Short and sweet. Here's the Subverts. Same show as the first three. Nice mix of old and new. (At least other than what was on their 7" & the Oz comp., sooooo new?) Check it out, hear it out, & enjoy!

Riot Fest 2010 - Busted At Oz Reunion - Steve Bjorklund

Now this was the set I had been waiting for all night long. There were many great bands to come out of Chicago, but little to none possessed the ferocity of Strike Under. Now unfortunately not all the original members could make it. In fact there was only one. Steve explains why in the beginning of the set. Now although Chris, Pierre, & Bob were not able to perform, it's not like Steve just got 3 guys off the street to join him on stage. He rounded up Vic Bondi & Dave Shields of Articles of Faith as well as Joe Haggerty of Pegboy/Bloodsport. So sit back & enjoy the first (& last?) time Strike Under songs have been performed live since 1981!

Riot Fest 2010 - Busted At Oz Reunion - Silver Abuse

Next band up is the great spastic art punk known as Silver Abuse. This would be the second of three bands that Chicago all-star Camilo Gonzalez would have a hand in for the night. (Toothpaste, Silver Abuse, & Naked Raygun) They played a couple from the Oz album, "Cuban Homo Farms" from their 7" (Although tonight it was known as "Buggery Barn"), plus some others. Great set over all. Check it out for yourself!

Riot Fest 2010 - Busted At Oz Reunion - Toothpaste

I know I've been gone for a very, very long time. Again just another one my of many hundreds of apologies. I decided I'd better have something damn good when I do come back. I hope this doesn't disappoint.....

Complete coverage of this year's Riot Fest will be coming straight to you all by way of me and my little Kodak camera. Well I guess not complete coverage seeing as I didn't make it to every show. Just all the ones the were worth flying halfway across the country for. Basically all the reunions. So we'll start with the first night, the very, very long awaited Busted At Oz Reunion. I won't be doing any reviews per say, because the nice people over at The Punk Vault have already done a wonderful job of that. I'll just let the videos speak for themselves.

I filmed well over 10 hours of video and have much to go through. So over the next few weeks I'll be posting videos from the Oz show, Bhopal Stiffs, Articles of Faith & Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School of Medicine, Articles of Faith secret show, Zero Boy & Negative Approach, & Roy Ellis (Mr. Symarip). So please do stay tuned. It will be worth the wait.

Let's get things started with the Busted At Oz Reunion......... TOOTHPASTE!!!

Curtiss A

Here's the first solo single by Curtiss A. I Don't Wanna Be President was released in 1979 on Twin Tone records. Prior to this release, Curtiss A was featured both in The Spooks & two other acts on the Big Hits of Mid-America Vol. III. Those two acts were of course Curtiss A & The Originals and Buzz Barker & The Atomic Bums. The second act did an earlier, slower version of Land Of The Free, the b-side of the single mentioned here. What was special about this line-up was that it consisted of Curtiss A (Buzz Barker) and the Suicide Commandos (The Atomic Bums). So here's the comp. tracks and the single. Enjoy!

Tools

Wow. I almost completely forgot about this. Well not really, just lack of time I guess? Whatever it is I apologize for yet another long stint of pure nothingness. So enough bullshit, let's get back to what counts. The music!

Today I got for you the second output by San Francisco's Tools. A decent follow up to their Smoke Filled Rooms/Adopted Procedures 7". Which in my opinion is the best of their three. And I know someone has that one available, but I'm not sure where at the moment. If you can't find it and you're in dire need, let me know and I'll post it. It's a must.

Their Hard Wark/The Road Forever 7" was released in 1980 on Subterranean Records (SUB6). The title track is just as great as their first 7', while the b-side is more atune with the tracks on their 3rd 7". (Not very good) Enjoy!

Death

Detroit band Death released one 7" in 1976. It's quite hard to come by and usually very expensive. This album here compiles those two songs from the 7" plus the other 5 songs they recorded during that same session. All songs were recorded in 1975. Think along the lines of Sonic's Rendezvous Band. Great stuff.

Mission Of Burma - Live At The Echo

The same weekend Cock Sparrer played in San Francisco, Mission Of Burma played in Los Angeles. Well they also played in San Francisco on Saturday, but I was at the Sparrer show so that wasn't gonna happen. So it was Sparrer in San Francisco on Saturday & Burma in Los Angeles on Sunday. A bit of a trip, but it was deffinetley worth it. as always, Burma put on one hell of a show. If you haven't heard by now, they just recently released a new album titled The Sound The Speed The Light. Just as every other release of theirs, this one does not disappoint.

Now unfortunatley, the show was moved to The Echo at the last minute. It was originally scheduled at The Echoplex, which located right below The Echo. Not to say that The Echo is a bad place, it is much smaller than the Echoplex so it has much more of a bar feeling to it, but The Echoplex has a much better sound system. But despite this, the show was still none the less amazing. They played a great mixture of old and new. I couldn't have asked for more. So check out the videos, listen to the tunes, & let me know what you think! Enjoy!

P.S. The two Untitled songs just stumped me! I went through all my Burma material (which is just about everything they ever released) and I still could not come up with the titles. I know I've heard these songs somewhere. Maybe they're covers, but I just can't put my finger on them. Help?! Anyone?!

Riot Fest 2009 - Cock Sparrer

So here we are with the last of the Riot Fest posts. I wanted to get them all in before the new year, but 2009 in 2010, so what right? But of course, I saved the best for last. Cock Sparrer played two nights at the Fest. Played saturday night at the Congress Theatre (which they didn't even headline, NOFX did. Just down right fuckin sad.) & sunday night at The Metro (which they did headline). Now I got both shows on video, but for saturdays show I was up front in the pit. So watching that video might make you a bit nauseous, too damn shaky. Sundays I decided to stay up on the balcony & get some great footage. Naturally sundays show was better between the two.

You know I really would have been happy just to see them once, but to see them twice in Chicago & then again in San Francisco a month later, just amazing. Every show was great and different in their own way, but hands down the one at The Metro was the best. And that's the video I have to share with you all here. I believe Pirate Press Records is putting out a video of the shows in San Francisco so look out for that. So sit back, watch the video's, and enjoy the music that is COCK SPARRER!
